The founders of ChatGPT have launched an AI Agent which is being touted as “the next big thing”
ChatGPT became a household name after bursting onto the scene in 2022, the company behind it, OpenAI, have announced their game changing AI product, the AI agent Operator.
While ChatGPT has simplified work projects by writing briefs, correspondence, and simplifying complex documents, Operator will go one step further in automation, by performing digital tasks on behalf of the user.
The AI agent can interact with users web browsers and interfaces to independently perform actions, through the use of a mouse and keyboard, much like a standard computer user would.
OpenAI previewed the product in a blogpost, showing the AI agent completing the steps of booking a holiday from the prompt “find and book me the highest rated one-day tour of Rome on Tripadvisor.”
The showcase includes the AI agent navigating pages on the internet, booking tickets, purchasing clothes and ordering food.
“Operator is one of our first agents, which are AIs capable of doing work for you independently – you give them a task and it will execute it.”

Operator is in its research preview stage and is only available to OpenAI subscribers, but is the first major AI agent available to the public.
Global AI agents were valued at $3.6 million in 2023, and expected to grow 45% by 2030.
