Australia’s Most Trusted Brands in 2024 Revealed

Bunnings is sitting a top the list, while two supermarket giants have plummeted.

Bunnings has climbed to the top of Roy Morgan’s 2024 list of Australia’s most trusted brands, displacing supermarket giants Woolworths and Coles, which plummeted dramatically in consumer trust rankings.

The annual survey, based on responses from over 25,000 Australians evaluating 1,000 brands across 27 industries, saw Bunnings rise from second place last year to claim the number one spot. Aldi and Kmart secured second and third place, respectively.

Toyota, Apple, and Australia Post rounded out the top six, with little movement from last year. Meanwhile, Big W, NRMA, and Myer experienced minor shifts but maintained strong positions before Samsung completed the top 10.

The most striking change was Woolworths’ and Coles’ downfall. Once ranked in the top 10 both supermarkets plummeted into the distrust category.

“A year ago, Bunnings was ranked as Australia’s second most trusted brand – splitting the two major supermarkets Woolworths (first) and Coles (third) on the podium.”

The trust report also revealed the top 10 most distrusted brands, reflecting Woolworths’ and Coles’ steep decline. Coles ranked third on the distrust list, while Woolworths came in second, surpassed only by Optus, which has been Australia’s most distrusted brand for six consecutive quarters.

Other brands facing significant consumer distrust included Qantas, Meta, Telstra, News Corp, Temu, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok. Additionally, once-trusted names like David Jones, ABC, Nike, and Bendigo Bank also saw declines in consumer trust this year.

Despite the Privacy Commission’s recent ruling that Bunnings breached the Privacy Act by using facial recognition technology, the decision appears to have had minimal impact on the company’s trust rankings.
